Hi friends,
Happy Friday junior, as my mentor likes to say.
I hope that this week has served you well in the midst of all this chaos. I hope that wherever you find yourself, you have a moment of calm. Our world has changed so much so fast and I think sometimes calm is all we can ask for.
I have some things to share with you.
First, a graphic I made a couple months ago on vacation. The font is the first font I’ve added to my collection that I’ve spent actual, real money on. I’m still obsessed with it so I’m pretty sure it was worth it. The photo is not mine, I found it on Unsplash (an excellent place to find free use photos). The artist is Holly Mandarich.
The words came pouring out of me, so those I can take credit for, and the rectangle just felt right. I haven’t done any graphic design in a while, which is kinda unusual for me, and I think this is one of the few pieces of digital art I’ve made in a while where my instincts just knew what to do.

I’ve also used this photo as the cover for my “the smell of earth” playlist which, naturally, inspired the name of this newsletter.
Here is the playlist:
The playlist is comprised of songs that remind me of being outside, in the wide open. Ideal for hiking and long drives. Expect lots of Maggie Rogers.
A little poem I wrote this week:
State of mind
I pour water from my glasses into the soil
Everywhere I look there are plants
That feels like a dream come true
But not one I remember dreaming
Only living
Fern and I sat on the balcony today
She sat still, watching the cars go
I watched her, in case she went too
Some things I’ve been cherishing lately:
this Valley Cruise blanket I finally gave in and bought (made by one of my favorite musical and design artists Monster Rally, who knew!). it was worth every penny.
my favorite Queer Co Candle of the season: jasmine and honey
Arrtx markers. i think i’m finally getting somewhere with learning how to use art markers, yay!
this raspberry and pecan rooibos tea. i finally have gotten in the habit of having a non-caffeinated tea in the meeting heavy afternoons and it makes them much more enjoyable.
And finally, some tweets that made me think or smile this week:
